When you are just starting out on your new hobby of metal detecting, it is a good idea to join a local metal detecting club. If you don't have a club for metal detecting near where you live, the next best thing would be to find a forum where people interested in metal detecting share ideas.
You can do metal detecting completely on your own, but it is fun to do things in a group. Also, being in a group gives you a great opportunity to learn from people who have been practising metal detecting for a long time. There will be plenty of metal detecting tips to be picked up from othe more experienced enthusiasts in the group.
